One of the most vicious and effective weapons of colonialism was not the musket, but disease

I am Chinese so I have a standoffish view of race relations. My culture doesn’t stretch back as far as the Australian Aboriginals, but it’s certainly further then that European colonialist history.

One of the most vicious and effective weapons of colonialism was not the musket, but disease. And it was used as a weapon. It’s difficult to prove that the English settlers deliberately gave local people blankets impregnated with smallpox, but where there’s smoke there’s fire.

So it occurs to me that a person of aboriginal Australian background would feel pretty raw about that and might see some irony in what’s happening with the Coronavirus right now
